Retail sales of gold, silver and jewellery in China were up 8.2 percent in the first two months of the year compared to the same period in 2016, data released by the National Bureau of Statistics of China revealed.
Sales reached RMB56.9 billion (around US$8.26 billion) in January and February 2017, showing consistent signs of improvement.
Sales in this category rose 4.8 percent to RMB32.3 billion (about US$4.7 billion) in December 2016 compared to the same period a year ago. Overall sales from January to December 2016, meanwhile, registered a flat year-on-year growth to RMB299.6 billion (around US$43.68 billion), an improvement from a continuous drop in sales since the beginning of 2016.
