Diamond industry players from India and China gathered under one roof for a week of buyer-seller meetings and a diamond viewing event in Shenzhen.
The India Diamond Week 2018, Shenzhen China was jointly organised by India’s Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) and the Shenzhen Rough Diamond Exchange (SDRE).
The event, held from June 13 to 15, saw the participation of 20 Indian diamond manufacturers and more than 100 jewellery manufacturers, retailers and diamond dealers from Shenzhen and other parts of China who engaged in a series of buyer-seller meets (BSM).
Julius Zheng, vice president of SRDE, underlined the importance of having more events of similar nature to promote trade between India and China.
GJEPC Regional Director Sanjay Singh highlighted the role of the Chinese market for India, saying that bilateral trade in the gemstone and jewellery sector reached US$21.41 billion in 2017, up 29 percent from 2016.
Secretary General of the Shenzhen Gold and Jewelry Association Guo Xiaofei, for his part, commented that China’s gem and jewellery market is on the rise, with around 10 million couples getting married every year and fuelling the bridal jewellery market.
