The 2020 CIBJO Congress will be held at the Almas Tower in Dubai
The World Jewellery Confederation or CIBJO will hold its annual congress in Dubai from October 5 to 7. The event's 2020 edition is hosted by the Dubai Multi-Commodities Centre (DMCC).
CIBJO’s sectoral commissions meet annually at the congress to discuss the confederation's so-called Blue Books and if any amendments will be introduced. The Blue Books are CIBJO directories of international industry standards for diamonds, coloured gemstones, pearls, gemmological labs, precious metals, coral and responsible sourcing.
Developments on the World Jewellery Confederation Education Foundation relating to responsible and sustainable activities in the industry and CIBJO’s ongoing cooperation with the United Nations and its development programme will also be discussed at the congress.
CIBJO President Gaetano Cavalieri also cited Dubai’s importance in the trade as one of the world’s most important jewellery and gemstone hubs and the third-largest diamond trading centre.
With more than 17,000 businesses registered at DMCC, the centre sits at the heart of the region’s growing jewellery trade and is home to the Dubai Diamond Exchange. The Dubai Gold & Commodities Exchange and Dubai Design Academy are also based in DMCC, noted CIBJO.
