Christie’s Hong Kong Magnificent Jewels Autumn Auction achieved HK$397.08 million (around US$51.5 million) on November 29, reflecting sustained market demand for fine-quality diamond and coloured gemstone jewellery pieces.
Top-billing the sale was an emerald and diamond double rivière necklace, which sold for HK$54.25 million (around US$7 million). The piece was co-created by Edmond Chin and the House of Boghossian.
Fancy colour diamonds likewise performed well, with a pair of 3.29-carat internally flawless fancy intense blue diamond earrings attracting heated bidding in the saleroom and eventually being sold to a phone bidder for HK$47.05 million (around US$6.1 million).
This was accompanied by a 4.90-carat fancy intense pink diamond ring, which sold for HK$29.05 million (around US$3.8 million) and an important fancy vivid yellow diamond ring of 18.08 carats, which fetched twice the low estimate at HK$11.05 million (around US$1.4 million).
Vickie Sek, chairman of Christie’s Jewellery Asia Pacific, commented, “Collectors from 24 countries and four continents around the world bid enthusiastically for some of the most coveted jewels offered at Christie’s Hong Kong, achieving strong prices for top-quality colour diamonds, jadeite and rubies.
