The Gem and Jewelry Institute of Thailand (Public Organization) or GIT provides a wide range of services to support the Thai gem and jewellery industry. These include gem and jewellery testing, training courses and the dissemination of pertinent research and market information through various channels. The institute is making its presence felt at the September Hong Kong Fair with a host of initiatives.
For starters, it is providing on-site gem testing services at both the AsiaWorld-Expo and Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre (HKCEC) sections of the fair to showcase its internationally accepted capabilities. According to GIT, its mobile unit can provide fast and accurate gem identification reports with origin determination and colour grading for Pigeon’s Blood ruby, royal blue sapphire and cornflower blue sapphire. GIT is also exhibiting its Colored Stone Standard Master Set.
The institute is likewise collaborating with the National Gemstone Testing Center, China (NGTC) to develop coloured stone standards to be used as reference in gem and jewellery testing and certification. This is expected to boost awareness of GIT in China, one of its main markets together with Japan, the US and Europe.
GIT is shining the spotlight too on Thailand’s prowess in jewellery design and production through its Gem Treasure development project. Jewellery pieces from 15 Thai provinces are on display at GIT’s location in Hall 5 of the HKCEC. The institute is also promoting the Buy With Confidence project to increase awareness, trust and confidence in Thai jewellery products through the GIT gem and jewellery identification report.
