Exceptional pieces embellished with precious gems and rare diamonds are the stars of three fine jewellery auctions that are scheduled to take place later this month in Hong Kong.
A near-flawless 9.98-carat Colombian no-oil emerald ring will lead Bonhams’ Hong Kong Jewels and Jadeite Sale on May 26, along with an eclectic collection of coloured gemstones, white and fancy colour diamonds, jadeite, signed jewellery sets and vintage jewellery.
Paul Redmayne-Mourad of Bonhams Hong Kong commented, “There is a marked trend that our clients are increasingly collecting for style rather than buying merely for safekeeping. We are seeing that these collectors enjoy wearing their pieces about town in a more relaxed setting, whilst also mixing and matching for different – perhaps more formal – occasions. These collectors are also very well-informed and proactively seek information about what they collect.”
Christie’s Hong Kong meanwhile is shining the spotlight on a 3.44-carat fancy vivid purplish pink diamond ring by Moussaieff, aptly known as the Bubble Gum Pink, when it opens its Magnificent Jewels auction on May 28. Featuring more than 260 lots of exquisite and rare jewels, the sale also highlights a 3.01-carat fancy vivid blue VS1 diamond ring; a pair of 23.34-carat and 23.18-carat Colombia no-oil emerald earrings also known as the Grand Muzos; and a 26.41-carat Kashmir no-heat sapphire brooch.
Vickie Sek, chairman of Jewellery Asia at Christie’s, said, “The striking centrepieces of Christie’s Spring sales include both fancy vivid blue and pink diamonds, as well as one of the finest emeralds ever to come to auction. This collection of some of the most prized gems is bound to draw strong interest from collectors around the world as they purse for pieces of dazzling splendour and unmatched rarity.”
Jadeite, gemstones and diamonds, meanwhile, are the top lots at the Tiancheng International Jewellery and Jadeite Spring Auction 2019, which will take place on May 29. Leading the auction is a fine jadeite necklace with 43 translucent beads of rich emerald green colour. A pair of 5.12-carat and 5.03-carat Burmese pigeon’s blood ruby earrings and a 20.35-carat Burmese Mogok royal blue sapphire ring are also expected to attract buyer interest.
Connie Huang, head of Tiancheng International’s Jewellery Department, remarked, “We are thrilled to showcase treasures full of Chinese and Western charm and pieces by celebrated brands in this meticulously curated sale. This dazzling set is a perfect marriage of refined diamonds and impeccable craftsmanship, which promises to be a delight for connoisseurs.”
