The Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) and the Shenzhen Rough Diamond Exchange (SRDE) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening cooperation between the two organisations.
The MoU was signed by GJEPC Chairman Pramod Agrawal and SRDE Vice President Julius Zheng on the sidelines of the recently concluded India International Jewellery Show 2018 in Mumbai.
GJEPC also announced plans to set up an office within the SRDE.
Agrawal commented, “We have worked out further areas of interaction wherein SRDE will participate in the Diamond Week to be held in India in October. We also proposed to hold a Gemstone Week in Shenzhen in September.”
GJEPC Executive Director Sabyasachi Ray further explained, “India and China have a strong relationship in the area of diamond and jewellery trade. We interact with each other during shows in Shanghai and Guangzhou and most recently at the Gold Conference in Beijing in June. There is also a great deal of investments by Indian companies in China.”
Zheng, for his part, emphasised that China, as the second largest consumer of diamond jewellery, is looking to India to provide its diverse product needs. “We welcome all suppliers who want to do business with China,” he added.
