Russian diamond miner Alrosa sold US$266 million worth of rough and polished diamonds in May, bringing the company’s year-to-date sales to US$1.58 billion.
In May alone, rough diamond sales amounted to US$261.1 million while sales of polished diamonds reached US$5 million.
From January to May, rough diamond sales generated US$1.56 billion while polished diamonds sold for US$24.1 million.
“The market is entering its seasonal slow phase. India’s cutting and polishing sector faces a financing challenge, which deters growth in demand for diamond products,” commented Evgeny Agureev of Alrosa.
