  • Susan Jacques

    Susan M. Jacques was appointed GIA’s president and CEO in January 2014. Before joining GIA, she served as president and CEO of Borsheim’s Fine Jewelry and Gifts in Omaha, Nebraska for 20 years and reported directly to Warren Buffett. Ms. Jacques is a member of several trade organizations, including the Jewelers of America Ethical Initiatives committee and the Jewelers Vigilance Committee board. She received the 2020 Stanley Schechter Award from the Jewelers Vigilance Committee, the Women’s Jewelry Association’s Lifetime Achievement Award in 2010 and was inducted into National Jeweler’s Retailer Hall of Fame in 1997. Ms. Jacques joined the GIA Board of Governors in May 1996 and served as chair from 2008 to 2013.

  • Mark Buntz

    As GIA’s Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer, Mark Buntz works collaboratively with the Executive team and other leadership teams to elevate the GIA brand and support GIA’s global growth initiatives. Prior to GIA, Mark Buntz served as Vice President of Global Brand Marketing at TaylorMade Golf Company and was Senior Vice President of Competitor Group. He has also held numerous leadership positions with media organizations such as NBCUniversal and ESPN. Mark holds a Bachelor of Arts in broadcasting from Arizona State University – Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication.

  • Nellie Barnett

    Nellie Barnett is the manager of media and public relations at the Gemological Institute of America (GIA). She has six years of experience in the jewelry industry that spans from diamond grading to marketing. Her passion for storytelling has led her to be a creator of compelling communications content. She also contributes her skills as the chair of communications for the newly founded Black in Jewelry Coalition, a nonprofit organization for the advancement of Black professionals within the gem and jewelry industry. Nellie has her Applied Jewelry Professional and Graduate Diamond diplomas from GIA and a bachelor’s of science in marketing and advertising from the Fashion Institute of Technology.  

  • Cathryn Ramirez

    Cathryn Ramirez is GIA director of global business development. Since joining GIA in 2017, she has worked to further GIA’s mission of ensuring the public trust in gems and jewelry by expanding and deepening GIA’s relationships with retailers and other stakeholders. Ramirez’s past experience includes more than two decades of leadership at Tiffany & Co. as group director and working at her family’s 100-year old jewelry business. She earned a B.A. in Marketing from the University of Texas at Austin – Red McCombs School of Business and is a GIA Graduate Gemologist.
